With restrictions continuing to ease throughout Australia, it’s time to start planning your next event. To ensure your event is a success, here are some top event security tips to consider.
Understand the risks
It can seem counter-intuitive when you are planning an event, however it is critical that you think about the things that could go wrong on the day. Knowing the risks will allow you to accurately plan the type and size of security required. It can also help with constructing contingency plans to eliminate or minimise the risks you have identified.
- An injury to a guest or staff
- Damage to property or venue
- Crowd control / screen attendees
- Troublesome guests
- Unexpected situations
Planning
Have a professional event security team involved from the start. They can provide advice and work closely with you or your event planner to make key decisions. This close working relationship will mean that security is built-in to your plans and you won’t have to make costly changes to ‘slot’ security in as you get closer to the event.
Communications
Have a clear plan for the communications hierarchy during the event. This plan should set out who needs to be contacted and when. It also covers how event staff communicate with each other and what kind of information needs to be passed on. Setting out clear communication plans will keep your event running smoothly on the day.
Know the venue
Is it an indoor or outdoor function? What are the points of entry and exit? Are there any ways people could enter without your knowledge? Are there restricted areas? What laws does the venue need to adhere to regarding capacity, the presence of minors or smoking? You will need to know all these things in order to precisely plan your event and your security needs.
The success of your event and the performance of your event security depends on planning and preparation. Speak to one of our Event Security Advisers to find out how we can help you.
